So I've been researching ways on how to graduate early... because I'm korean and I have to go to military service for 2 years I want to graduate early and save money.

I already have 20 credits from my IB scores. If I calculate the number of credits I need to graduate in 3 years, that would be 18 credits per semester. Is it hard to get 18 credits each sem?? or is there any other way to graduate early?

You already pay for 18 credits a semester, so you are allowed to register for that many in a given semester. So I’m pretty sure you’d be able to graduate in three years, but check with your advisor. Some majors are pretty picky about when they want you to take certain classes, so you might have to work around that.

Congrats on the IB. I just got my scores too, and 20 credits for me as well. :D

How do you know how many IB subjects you can transfer as credits?

one thing that I did that allowed me to graduate in 3 years was to take elective units at a community college over the summer. most (all?) classes for your major have to be taken at USC though.

@wisdomsomehow thanks!

Another question though… If I get 20 credits, where are those credits taken from? Electives or GE courses?

@wisdomsomehow thank you so much!!

i still have tears on my eyes when i think of all the things we did for IB… thanks goodness its over… i cant believe we only get 20 credits for all that we’ve done haha

Those credits usually count as free electives. The is, they don’t fulfill any of your major’s requirements for graduating (usually) and only count for the number of credits you have taken.

I feel like USC is still more generous than most schools, though… however, Virginia public schools now HAVE to accept SL credits. If only other schools would follow suit. :/

We’re also at an advantage for registering for every semester after first semester, since registration opens in order of how many credits each student has. :)

It completely depends on your major requirements. You need a total of 128 credits to graduate from USC. Most students take the standard course load of 16 units but USC provides plenty of 2 unit courses to fill your schedule. Freshman year take a freshman seminar (2 units) which is intriguing, fun, and easy (because it’s credit/no credit). There are also athletic courses for 2 units. Check the course catalogue to see all of your options. Another thing you can do is have an internship and apply for credits that way. Ask your major advisor for more information about that option.
