How can I help make my application stronger if:

-my ssat is in the high 40 percentile (i think around 1971)
-my school grades are from the high B's to the high A's

my toefl results did not come out yet,
and i am very active in the extra-curricular area

Hi Bianca,

At this point in the admission process, there’s only so much you can do to boost your application score-wise. Your best bet is to quit worrying over details that you can’t change and put your all into the essays and short responses. If you have good ECs, then chances are you have some very interesting topics to discuss. Example college essays online can help get your creative juices flowing if you find yourself on the dreaded writer’s block.

I have to warn you, though, that boarding schools are highly selective. Even with fairly good grades, the SSAT 40 percentile may send you to the rejection pile. Have you signed up for the Jan 5 SSATs?

Also, you said you are waiting for your TOEFL results. Are you an international student? If so, it might be a good idea to play up your heritage and highlight how you would contribute to a more diverse student body.

Hope I helped!

Where did you apply?

Writing essays that blow tops and minds.

i unfortunately can’t sign up for the jan 5th ssat
and the schools i am applying to are:
hill, milton, loomis, choate and one more (i am not quite sure of yet)
also, i think i did pretty well on the interviews

With a score around the 40th percentile, you are going to have a hard time getting into any of those schools without some sort of mega hook. Not saying this to be mean, but just be prepared. Choate especially.

Please keep us posted on your results. If nothing pans out this time, work really hard to get your test scores as high as possible and try again next year.

Sometime, on rare occasions, the schools overlook the scores because not all students do well on them. Certainly if you come from an area where all the emphasis is on state exams which are a different format. Best you can do is try and hope for the best but prepare for the worst. With so many candidates, your application will have to demonstrate that the scores are an anomoly not representative of your actual academic skills.

i don’t think i might have any hooks but i am pretty good in music and have won many awards for it, i also have over 200 community service hours and have been in the school overseas traveling soccer team for three years. and my cousin goes to the hill school

1/what are some of the strongest points in an application
2/what are some schools you would recommend that would consider more about a lower ssat score?

and thank you guys so much for our help
