I'm going into my sophomore year of high school. I get fairly good grades, mostly A's and I'm in challenging courses. I plan to do volunteer work at a local hospital next year for community service and I'll join environmental club and science olympiads. I don't have any national awards and I doubt I'll get them. My goal is to get into Johns Hopkins biomedical engineering program. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do for some extra circulars that would help me achieve that? My school doesn't offer much and they don't usually let people start their own clubs.

Do what you’re passionate about, in the context of what is offered at your school. Also look outside of it as well, it seems that you are already volunteering, so that is a great start. Show your interest to the school early on by becoming a part of their mailing list, visiting campus, getting interviews (usually during senior year), and putting them as one of your top schools when you take the PSAT.

Other than that, see if anything is offered in your local area. If you live near a university, there may be some internship or research options, but other than show leadership, do what you’re passionate about, and work hard in high school. Good luck OP!
