I am currently a freshman in a top college preparatory high school in my area. I currently have a 3.3 GPA, with two honors classes (as my school does not offer honors classes in English and History for a ninth grader), including an honors science course usually taken by strong juniors. I volunteer at the local library every week. I am involved in many clubs in my school. I am currently the ninth grade alternate representative, after two failed attempts at both class council and school council. I am not involved with any sports during my freshman year (but will definitely be involved in upcoming years). I am a member of the school band and the school drama production. My strong subjects are History and English. I am a bit overweight, but I will make sure I get in shape. Any advice?

You have a good start. Others will chime in with more but I would break it down into 3areas that you have to excel.

1. Academics-take the heaviest weighted course curriculum that your H.S. has to offer and do your best to be in the top of your class. Math, Science and English are must.
2. ACT/SAT-take them at the end of you sophmore(start) and continue until your senior yr. Take them many times for yours scores can be split from each exam for the highest.
3. Extra Activities-everything you do! Sports are the #1 activity the Academy looks at but not the only thing. You will need to be in good shape at the Academy. Become a leader in each activity-captain, president of club, eagle scout as some examples.

Go to the U.S. Naval Academy webpage and study what others have done in the class profile. Set your goals and go after them!

good luck

Assuming you are intelligent, physically fit and morally responsible, the committee is looking for evidence that when you lead, others follow. Simple as that.
