I am an amateur stand up comic. I have done a few talent shows and school assemblies ( ok 1 assembly). I plan to start doing the open mic nights at the comedy clubs when i turn 18 ( in december)

could I potentially use this as an ec? thanks all

Def put it in your ec section. I write and perform monologues for fun (sorta similar, I guess) and included that in an activities resume that explained all my extra stuff.

i think thats a great idea!! its definitely original, and it'd help you stand out. if you have a passion for something..let the admissions office know

Okay...an admissions officer just spoke about this. @ NU, they don't want to see like...a beautiful painting, piece of poetry, or monologue...etc. They say "so many people have these talents, who cares." Instead (if u decided to send something), they'd rather you show where you began...AND the final product. Thus, if you're going to send a video of a performance, they'd also prefer to see a video of you..perhaps ruining lines, not getting laughs, or suffering from stage fright. They want to see the obstacles you overcame, and how hard you worked to reach the point you're at now. Everything between Point A and B is important. I hope that helps...because I sent a chapbook of poetry, and they said it was completely unnecessary unless I had also sent in poetry I wrote freshman year and explained how much I improved.

I dont really have any videos of me struggleing. I just have the one that I am sending to the open mic night people. Its a 5 min clip of me performing in front of my friends brother's friends ( lol) .

Would it be a good idea to make one ( ie, me writing some comedy, then practicing, then performing?)

This is my main EC (its not technically an EC, since I haev to be 18 for all of the open mic nights). I have performed at a few Mosque talent shows, but they were all for charity ( no prizes or winners)

Yeah! Show the steps that you take all the way up to performance. That would make for a cool video! Just remember to keep it short. They have plenty of applications to review, and can't get stuck looking at a video. Good luck!

P.S. I still think this whole comedy thing can be used to make an amazing essay. Use comedy as an extended metaphor for something that's important to you. Be really, really funny in your essay...but avoid being cliche. I think it'll be great!
