How can I make myself look like a better transfer applicant?

I'm at a community college. My intended major is finance at DePaul or Fordham. I just completed my first semester. 2 w's and 2 A's. I plan on maintaining atleast a 3.5 GPA. I have no extracurriculars, thus far, however, I am planning on getting inducted into the Phi Tetta Kappa honors society and joining Phi Betta Lambda business society. I have a european name and was born in Europe. Moved to America when I was 6. There is not much to do around here like volunteering. I don't want to volunteer at a hospital or something completely irrelevant to my major, because admissions would know that i'm just trying to buff up my resume. What else can I do? Besides maintaining a good GPA and joining these 2 clubs?

I forgot to add I am a GED student with no SAT/ACT scores.

Have you read through the thread titled “Transfer Admissions 101” in the Transfer Forum? Almost everything that you need to know is there. Here is a link to that forum for you: [Transfer Students - College Confidential](Transfer Students - College Confidential Forums)

Your best bet is simply to keep your GPA as high as possible. You also need to make friends with the Transfer Counselor at your CC. If he/she is good, he/she will be able to help you identify the best target colleges/universities and will be able to help you find any scholarships that you qualify for. Here is a link to the Transfer information at our local community college. Some is specific to that CC and/or to students in Maryland, but most of it will apply to you as well: [Counseling & Advising | Transferring](http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/edu/tertiary1.aspx?urlid=67)

It is smart to join Phi Theta Kappa the second you are invited so that you will have access to the scholarships that are designated for PTK members, and to their national network. A lot of PTK chapters sponsor community projects that might make sense for you as a volunteer. They all also need officers, so when you join you could volunteer for that.
If you have specific target universities already on your list, it is perfectly OK to pick up the phone and call the transfer admissions offices and ask what you should be doing to make yourself a strong candidate for admissions. They may be able to advise you on specific course sequences that you need.

Good luck!
