Hello! I am considering going to a California community college. If I do, what can I do in order to maximize my chances of transferring to Stanford for mechanical or computer engineering? Thanks!
I got my master’s degree at Stanford. When I was a student there, the other students in the same program had gotten their bachelor’s degrees at a very wide range of universities.
Stanford accepts very few transfer students. Your chances would be much better to transfer to a different very good university (possibly one of the various campuses of the University of California), and then considering getting a master’s at Stanford. Stanford has quite a wide range of very good master’s degree programs.
Keeping your grades up would be helpful. Looking for internships would be helpful also. Quite a few of the master’s degree students that I met at Stanford also had some very good work experience between getting their bachelor’s and applying for a master’s degree program.
Stanford admits very few transfer students, and appears to emphasize non-traditional students (i.e. those who have done something else besides college such as work or military service for much of the time after leaving high school).
Obviously, doing well in all of your college course work is necessary for admission, but is very unlikely to be sufficient.
^^UCB is correct. Stanford’s handfull of transfers are primarily non-traditionals. Much better shot of trying to transfer into Cal Engineering.
Ummm, join the military and serve for a few years??
