How can I pay?

Does anyone here go to penn state and has tips and scholarships to attend penn? I’m currently waiting for Fasfa but even with that I doubt it’ll cover most of my tuition. Thank u!!

Are you in state?

Do you mean Penn or Penn State. Vastly different schools?

I’m out of state. Penn State I mean @jlhpsu @MYOS1634

OP seems to be a NYC resident applying through the EOP program. I’m not sure OOS colleges will be affordable. She has a thread in the College Search & Selection forum that provides more details.

Penn State is not very generous when it comes to financial aid. PSU Abington will be lower tuition than UP, but Abington is still $20k tuition only for OOS. (then another 10k for dorms).

You could get loans etc…but you won’t receive merit scholarships with your GPA. I’d wait and see what, if any, aid is offered. As far as being worried about waiting because of dorms and classes, do not worry about classes because you will select your classes at new student orientation. Dorms, since they are brand new there, are likely full already. You could call and ask that question, but I know for many of the commonwealth campuses, dorm space is gone.

Run the net price calculators on all of the schools you are interested in and see where you can afford. Unfortunately for many, PSU requires loans…and you can’t take out enough loans yourself (as a freshmen you can take out $5500), so your parents would have to take out a loan for the rest.

The federal gov’t (thru FAFSA app) is NOT going to give you money to cover PSU OOS tuition.

I don’t mean to sound harsh, but the taxpayers can’t afford to pay for students to skip over to other states and pay for their high OOS costs. Fed aid isn’t very much.

If you’re low income and instate for NY, then go to a SUNY. You’ll get state aid and fed aid and that should cover most of the instate costs.

If you’re out of state, I wouldn’t go into major debt to attend Penn State. Yes, it’s a good school, but there are also many great schools in New York. Also, depending upon your major, if you plan on living in New York, you’ll be closer to internships which could help with potential jobs. At Penn State, I’m not sure, but I don’t think there are many internship opportunities during the school year — simply because there’s no where near University Park to intern.

NYS resident here and my son was offered 5K Will pass!

How?
