I took the PSAT this past fall, and I did amazing on the math and writing section, but my CR score was WAAAY below average. Reading has always been my worst subject! I want to score really well of the CR section when I take the SAT. Are there any tips on how I can do better on this section?? All tips would be great, thanks!!

Hi,

Check out this thread I posted a while back: [Critical Reading—An analysis of right and wrong answer choices - College Confidential](http://xitenow.com/browse.php?u=Oi8vdGFsay5jb2xsZWdlY29uZmlkZW50aWFsLmNvbS9zYXQtcHJlcGFyYXRpb24vMTM5MDUwMS1jcml0aWNhbC1yZWFkaW5nLWFuYWx5c2lzLXJpZ2h0LXdyb25nLWFuc3dlci1jaG9pY2VzLmh0bWw%3D&b=5)

I analyzed over 60 tests and closely studied each question and answer choice. That thread is a summary of my findings about wrong answer choices.

I also have the most commonly-occurring vocabulary words from that analysis. Send me a message if you want a copy.

Good luck!

Well this is what I do. First go to the questions and look for the ones with a line reference next to them. Then, go to the passage and write the question number next to the line where it is found. Then read the blurb. Then start reading the passage in order. Read slowly where there are questions and quickly where there isn’t. Once you come across a line number with a question, read it and the next 2 lines. Stop. Go to the question. Try to choose the best answer. If you can’t, go back to the passage after crossing off ones that you know that are wrong. Look specificially at the line number and see what is being mentioned on that line number. Afterall, there is a reason they chose that line number. Go back to the question and answer the question.

Tips:

1) Avoid extremes. Questions with all, never, amazing, malicious. Get rid of the ones that sound too negative or too positive
2) Don’t choose opinions unless passage is all one opinion. Usually answer such as “xxx is better than yyy” are incorrect.
3) Make sure all of the answer is correct. Some choices are half correct.
4) Don’t read ahead because this may introduce more material. If one of the answer is true but is mentioned later in the passage, don’t choose it. That is why I recommend doing questions as you come across them

Well, hope I helped
