Hey guys,
I'm currently a junior looking at all top 20 colleges however my gpa is low. I currently have a 3.78gpa (at the end of this year my gpa will either be 3.85/3.825) which I know is at the lower end of the spectrum for all top 20 colleges. I was wondering if by taking classes at my local Community College over the summer could help raise my gpa. Any input?

It depends on how many you are able to handle. A full time student has 4 classes (and 12 credits). I’m not sure how much this would help your GPA out perse, but it would look great in terms of course rigor which is considered abreast your GPA.

Do college classes in HS affect your GPA even? At my school, they don’t count for any extra weightedness at all. You pass, you get one credit and no more. Also at my school: they don’t count summer classes towards your GPA. So maybe check with your guidance counselor before you do something like that and make sure it would actually affect your GPA. Other than that, I would say that this could help you out, in terms of raising your GPA a bit and also having a rigorous course load.

hmm alright Also if I took the college classes over the summer how would I report them? To my school or in my resume?

Don’t overchallenge yourself. No, you won’t get into Harvard taking the easiest courseload possible, but you shouldn’t take classes you know you have no chance of an A in. This isn’t to say you shouldn’t challenge yourself but rather that you should take a courseload suited to your strengths, one that challenges you without killing you.
