How can I see the school profile?

My school had a super hard grading scale and I’m curious to see if they mention it on the school profile they send to colleges. Well I’m assuming they have a school profile to send. All public high schools have a school profile right?

Are GC willing to show the school profile? Can I email a GC and ask him/her to send me a copy? If I can, what should I say on the email?

At my Ds high school, the school profile is on the Guidance Department’s webpage. Easily accessed.

It’s not on there nor did I see it at the guidance office. Heck, I have never even heard the GC’s even mention about a school profile before.

I guess I’m going to email them since I’ll get a copy I can always see for reference, if they are willing to.

Why do you want to see it so badly? It’s not like you can change anything about it. All schools have a profile that they send in with your application.

Just ask your GC to see it.

We asked the guidance office for a copy. They were happy to supply it.

Your high school should be willing to provide the high school profile to you. if you want to know what typically appears on them, see some samples here http://professionals.collegeboard.com/guidance/counseling/profile/sample and here http://www.eths.k12.il.us/assets/1/Documents/ETHSProfile_2013_14_final.pdf

The grading scale should be on the school profile, or at least on the school report they send with the Common App. If you ask, the GC should happily be able to provide you with one. It’s not like the school report is confidential information or anything like that. It just talks about the demographics, AP courses offered, grading scale, etc.

@annwank I had never seen (or known of) the profile until GCs passed copies out to parents at a college counseling information session one evening. I thought it was very interesting to see what adcoms would be seeing about D’s school. I’d recommend that every family try to see the profile.

^I agree.

Adcoms from state flagship schools usually know or are familiar with the schools’ profiles from their state’s high schools, but for students applying to schools which are out of state, highly selective, etc. it is a way to understand the student in relation to his/her class with other applicants.

It on online on our HS website. If you don’t see it there ask your GC. It should not be something they are hiding from students/parents…
