What books should I use? And will the prep books be enough to prepare me for the AP exam?
Note: I will be taking precalculus while self-studying

Just pick up any calculus textbook, you have a long way to go. But if you are diligent and determined you can do it.

hey do you know of any that are available via amazon or something?

bump. anyother good books?

A good one is:
Calculus(six edition) by Larson, Hostetler, and Edwards

Has anyone ever heard of this book? Calculus and Analytic Geometry (9th Edition) by George B., Jr Thomas. Is it good? The reason I am asking is because I can get a Used copy for a REALLY cheap prize on amazon :P

I have the hostetler, larson book that ktoto mentioned....

Another book that is used by colleges is the James (?) Stewart one.

ALso, get Princeton Review's prep book

im thinking about studying bc cal by myself too. I am currently a sophmore taking precal. do you think it looks bad if i take ap bc test this yr? wont it look like i wasnt challenging myself with math courses?
Use caluculus graphical, numerical, algebraic

i would recomend taking(or self-studying) AB first, especially if you are taking Pre-Cal. Try taking Cal BC as dual enrollement, then you dont even need to take the AP exam. By the way did you see the text for BC, take a look at it first!

ktoto: I hear Calc BC is pretty easy if you already did AB... so why not go for both at the same time?
and yes I have seen the text.... scary

I am taking Alg2/trig next year and plan to self-study pre-calc. Does any one what books I should use?

Precalculus by Michael Sullivan 3rd edition..

We have not followed this path just yet but my son will use the following "book" to self study based upon earlier posts from other parents:

Hey guys I have heard good things about this book also Peterson's AP Calculus AB & BC. I hear the earlier version is called Arco's Master the AP Calculus.... Does anyone know if the two books are really different? If they aren't I'm thinking of going for the cheaper one.

I used the Thinkwell Precalculus course through CTY and found a bunch of typos and stuff, although I found the notes very helpful. However, I easily got through the course without a single lecture - so I don't know how useful they are. The Calculus course looks better so far.

Without the lectures, their courses are more like learning through practice than anything, and that's pretty appealing to me.

There is no PreCalculus book by Michael Sullivan (3rd Edition)... All I found was "Precalculus Enhanced with Graphing Utilities" by him in 3rd Edition. Is this the right one?

dont think thats the same book... Anyhow, the ISBN for the book im talking about is

0-13-028955-8

which is currently selling at Amazon for 80 usd

hey jai6638:the book is a little too expensive for me and so is the course. Im only willing to spend $30 max. on books for self-study. I'm thinking of getting the book I mentioned earlier (Petersons) and Barrons. I can really use advice from people who have self-studied AP Calc BC before

dunno then.. sorry.. maybe you could buy a used book?

I took AP Calc AB last year and because of schedule conflicts, I'm doing independent study for Calc BC, my school will provide me with the BC book that other students use, but what prep book should I buy?? I scored a 5 on the AB exam last year.
