Just stumbled on this thread. Agree with the above. Writing his essa is unethical. The deferral should be a denial.
Your son will be going off to college on his own. He will be attending classes on his own, writing essays on his own, washing his laundry on his own. He will, for the most part, have to be his own parent. Even if he were to be admitted it would not be on his own merit. If he cannot write the essay for the application how should reps believe he can handle the coursework? Supporting your child is showing them love, but writing their essay for them harms them. It is totally okay to read your child’s work and edit it here and there, but it should be their own voice and ideas and opinions. Essays exist so that colleges can understand each individual person, and if the individual person isn’t writing the essay how are they supposed to shine through? I understand you wanted the best for your child, but the people in these threads generally have good advice so you should consider it. Maybe let your child write a new essay, edit it here and there, and then have them send it to the reps saying they really would like to improve their application as they really love Tulane. Otherwise, it sounds like your child is a qualified applicant, so maybe this will give them a chance.
@jym626: the child attends a private Catholic school.
From another of OP’s recent posts:
In my Catholic education,I learned about being honest.
For my kids “tough” application times they just asked me for my credit card. I had no idea where they all applied.
Just wrong. Living your child means teaching them ethics and morals.
Is this a real post? Just wondering, because post12 sure sounds like someone is trying to get the good netizens of CC all riled up. @wishiwoulda , you have done your kid no favors if in fact you did what you said you did.
For other parents reading this who are writing or rewriting their kids essay. Don’t. Adcoms can tell! They read thousands of apps! Feedback should be more in the line of “the topic is flat”, “you are not answering the question”, “this section is repetitive, rewrite it” NOT writing paragraphs for them.
