I’ve mostly submitted my apps and have been telling myself to forget it till m10 but it is not working. Worrying about m10 is such a big distraction… how can you stop?
By doing other things that keep you busy and leave you no time to worry about what’s out of your control: arts, clubs, sports, 10K/5K marathons, volunteering, fundraising for a cause, reading, writing, you name it. Or come up with a project that is meaningful to you and you can strive to complete by M10. Then you’ll have something to celebrate no matter what your admission results are. Or you could research summer programs and start applying for them - deadlines are usually in March, so that will keep you occupied. I hope these ideas help. The bottom line is, life goes on; don’t put it on hold waiting for a decision that someone else will make about you. You carry on with what’s important to you and brings you joy. Everything else will take care of itself.
@Totorocinnamon03 Where did you end up applying?
Also: To distract yourself, try setting a new goal to work on. It could be a sports or fitness goal or a creative one like writing a short story to submit for publication. Find s new community service project to get involved with or try out for a new sport.
Consider taking a break from this forum after you submit applications. I think this forum can be a great resource, but it can also be a source of anxiety. Whatever you read on this forum in the time between the submission of applications and admissions decisions coming out can only really fall into the latter category. I also agree with the others who suggest you either engage yourself with something new or focus on the here-and-now. As you get older, you’ll regret the times you worried about things that are out of your control.
To the OP: Take this precious time to spend with your family…do fun things together and make memories… ext year you may be at a BS far from home! After March 10, time seems to speed up and it’s a whirlwind of activity as you finish the school year. :bz
I could give you some advice like the others…except I remember being quite distracted by M10 too.
Just remember that you will be ok whatever the outcome. Some positive self talk may help. These forums do magnify everything.
Any good books people recommend to keep me distracted?
@misslilbookworm Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. It’s a popular book so you might have already read it.
The Hate U Give. This is another popular book that you might have heard of. There was a movie adaption of this book but it really didn’t do it justice. I’ve read it twice and planning on reading it a third time.
@misslilbookworm What genre(s) are you interested in reading?
I really liked Educated by Tara Westover. It’s a memoir about how she (a homeschooled girl in Idaho) went on to attend Harvard and Cambridge. Some of it does seem farfetched but it is still a good read
@Altras I’m very into fantasy or historical fiction. Also my favorite kind of movies are rom-coms. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is great. I actually got Educated for my mom for Christmas! Definitely soundss like it’s worth a read.
OMG I LOVE TATBILB SO MUCH!!! I watched the movie on Netflix but the book was 100000% better
I’ve read ALL the other books by Jenny Han and they are soooo good too
And also Siobhan Vivian, they kind of have a similar writing style
I read The Summer I Turned Pretty this week when I was out sick, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I legit starting screaming when I found out that TATBILB was coming out with a sequel
I’ve read all the ones in the series. In my opinion the book is almost always better than the movie
For fantasy - anything by Brandon Sanderson (particularly Reckoners series and Mistborn series), Red Rising trilogy, The Martian (the book is way better than the movie), and Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas series (graphic at times).
My absolute favorite is probably the Burn for Burn series. Have you read it?
@CavsFan2003 I LOVED Educated. Did Tara Westover’s story reassure you that you can have a brilliant career, even in academia, without even going to high school? That should relieve some of the stress leading up to M10!
@CaliMex I am feeling much more reassured!
