how can someone be a "match" for HYP?

what the title says?
What stats do you think you need to make HYP “match schools”?

Well if your last name is Bush you might be a match at Yale. If your name is Kennedy you might be a match at Harvard. And if your name is Frist there just might be room for you at Princeton.

Everybody else should consider these schools reaches.

You can statistically be a match. That gets you past the academic review of your scores and transcripts. The part that gets dicey is the EC review.

lol @ coureur , btw is your name like that for a reason in french it means "runner"

Jamimom has it, essentially.

Now, to make them a safety...

URM with a 1450+ SAT.
Or be Max Fischer.

I chose it exactly for that reason.

Maybe if you're val at Andover/Exeter? Or if you have super rich parents... or where a gold medal winner at the Olympics or something... I think it's possible, but VERY rare.

or if your father was the dean at harvard? ;o

no one is a safety, at lower ivies (upenn/cornell) some people might consider themsevles matches

well unless you're famous/infamous

hyp would be a safety if you discover the cure for aids, diabetes, or anything like that. But hey if you can discover a cure your bound to make bucks and you won't need a college education after all.

In addition to what was said above, anybody whose family donates a ridiculous amount of money to a school (i.e. something 8 figures and above) would be able to consider that school to be a safety.

Of course this isn't just particular to HYP, but to any school.

If you could prove that you were descended from John Harvard, I think Harvard would be a safety...

I think I'll pray to the legacy gods.

Gold Medal

Oscar Winner

Millionaire from touring with your band, or by yourself and numerous cd's released

I onced joked about two guys on my crew team that were recruited by Princeton, one with a 1490 and one with a 1250. I said that the first maybe wouldve gotten in anyway, while the other had to split the atom to get in without crew.

get gold medals in ipho, icho, ibo, imo, iao, ioi, & ipo and have 1500+ SATs with 3.8+ GPA and be valedictorian
then they would be safeties

No one has ever accomplished that. I don't think anyone can call them "safeties," let alone "match schools."

FairyofWind did get in.

of course there are certain stats that will get you in anywhere. For example, an IMO gold medal, or making any of the international teams for any olympiad. Unless you write essays about how you admire the work of Hitler, you can go anywhere in the world. Saying that there are no stats that will defintely get you in is not true.

well, not exactly...you would have to "win an IMO gold medal, or make any of the international teams for any olympiad" BEFORE senior year, perhaps repeatedly. Then yes, you have a safety at HYPS.

If you found the cure for cancer.

If you found a cure for AIDS.

If you won the gold medal at the Olympics

I'm sure if someone did one of those things they would be a lock at any school.

Although chances are someone will not find the cure for cancer or AIDS by the time they apply to college but to think even the most selective school would not accept someone who accomplished such a feat would be foolish.
