nvm found it lol

well i didnt...

i didn't either..

The best way you can figure out what books you need is by e-mailing your professors. As the professors are the ones who run the classes, they are also the ones who can change what books will be used in the course whenever they want. However, you can also call/stop by the bookstores, and ask about what books they currently have listed for the courses. (By the way, different professors order books from different bookstores (for example, Shaman Drum vs. Ulrich's).

are there any other ways?
i don't feel like emailing all of my professors and most bookstores usually don't have textbooks until like a week before classes begin.

union bookstore had most of my textbooks, and i went last week...

sometimes the texts will be listed in the course description or in the syllabus if it's up yet (on ctools - ctools.umich.edu)

See if you can find the Union bookstore online...you can order your books through there. They already know what texts will be required for the various classes.

Don't buy books until you need them or know you need them for sure, and then get used ones.

I spent a lot of money buying a lot of useless history books that we read maybe a chapter of.

Is the course guide a good place to look for textbooks, or does that change often?

I second not buying books until you find out whether or not they're useful. Last year me and my roommate never touched our Econ 101 text book. Also, I ordered a book for my math class from Amazon, and luckily it never came because my professor thought the book was pretty worthless and rarely used it, so I just got my refund.

As far as where to look to find what books you need, there's a few places you should check. Sometimes it's listed under course description on the course guide. Sometimes the professor will have a course website with a syllabus or something similar. Sometimes the department will have a list of required texts (http://www.math.lsa.umich.edu/courses/textbook.shtml).

can you get refunds/how easy is to get refund from the union bookstore if you buy books that you realize you'll never use (like within the first few weeks of the semester)?
