How close is the nearest mall?

How close by car is the nearest good shopping mall?

maybe 10 minutes away by car

There are 4 within 5 miles. Westside Pavillion, Westfield Century City, Beverly Center, Santa Monica Place. And then there's the promenade, the grove, and hollywood and highland, all about 15 minutes away sans traffic.

I wouldn't worry about that.

Thanks I was just curious because people are commenting over in the Davis forum about the mall being 12 minutes away by car (in Sacramento) but I didn't think UCLA had a mall any closer. I know CAL doesn't. LOL...UCI does but then you are living in the middle of suburbia there.

Yeah UCI has South Coast Plaza which is about 10 minutes away. And then there's Fashion Island in Newport (about 5 minutes away), Mission mall (about 15 minutes away), Laguna Hills Mall (about 10 minutes away), and Irvine Spectrum (about 5 minutes away).

Nothing wrong with suburbia. Especially because those are, in my opinion, some of the best malls in CA (they're also MINE though, so there's some bias). I'd take suburbia over cow country, but that's just me.

K i just saw the thread over there. The difference, though, is that Westwood itself has stores you'd find in a mall. BeBe, Urban Outfitters, Victorias Secret, etc etc etc. So even if you don't feel like driving to a mall, you can take a 5 minute walk into Westwood and do a considerable amount of damage.

And I, for one, love that. I am unabashed in my consumerism.

Sounds like you have never been to Davis Allie. It is a great college town with sports, great school spirit and a hopping sorority/fraternity environment. With Sacramento just 12 minutes away by car there is plenty of great shopping too in both the downtown mall and Arden Fair. A little futher away is the Galleria mall in Roseville. I've been to all the malls around Irvine and IMO they don't have anything I can't find in northern California malls. (but then nor cal is my stomping grounds so I guess there is some bias) When you call the Davis area a cow town it kind of makes you sound ignorant. There is nothing wrong with UCI I suppose if you like going to a commuter school. ;)

I don't go to UCI, and never really even considered UCI, so that didn't hurt too much :) And eh, I've been there. In my opinion, Davis is still a little hokey. But that's ok. I'm just not much of a norcal person, with the very distinct exception of SF proper.

Allie,
Downtown Davis also a 5 minute walk for students is filled with great botiques. If you want to do damage they are quite hip and $ will flow from your pockets. They host frequent shopping nights with special discounts for students and sororities. I travel TO Davis from Sacramento for some of these wonderful botiques in their downtown because they have items that are unique unlike the malls. There's a plethora of great restaurants of any type of food you could want as well. There IS a mall right on the edge of campus with a really nice World Market, RiteAid and Gottschalks.

downtown davis sucks compared to westwood in my opinion. there's like aboslutely nothing much there so i don't know what you're talking about. i've seen a line of banks, skate shops, food places, and a theater in downtown davis.

that was my impression, too. but alas.

fwiw... you can get to ww pav via sm8 or 12......................

emmeline, english dear. i need a translation.

It is possible and convenient to get to Westside Pavillion via the Santa Monica 8 or Santa Monica 12 if one wanted to get to that mall by bus from Ackerman Union in what is typically a 10-15 minute busride, for what it's worth.

k thats what i was thinking you said, just wanted to make sure.

Borders, World Market, RiteAid, Gap, Ground Zero, Pink-a-dot, Savvy, Samira’s, The
Red Dress, Riki, Unique Couture, Watermelon Music to name just some of the places to shop right in Davis….

I'm not sure it's relevant to the OP but UCSD has a mall within about a 3 minute drive. It's serviced by the campus shuttle as well so it's very convenient to get to/from if one's living in the dorms.
