I've seen mixed emotions while searching for the exact distance from Mason to the heart of DC (the mall, lets say). Google maps says 30 min., but that's by car. Some say its really close and easily accessible, while other say its still far away despite its location. So, how close IS Mason to DC? Closer than UMD?

Definitely closer, it depends on the day and the time, but usually it won’t take more than 30 minutes. It is really easy to get into DC from Mason!

There’s a metro called GMU/Fairfax, so you can always jump in the metro from George Mason to DC. You don’t really wan’t to drive to DC, just jump in hte metro.

Okay, it is definitely more than 30 minutes away (when not driving by car). The Mason to Metro shuttle is a 20-25 minute bus ride and then, depending on where you want to go in DC, the metro ride can be 15-30 minutes. That said, plenty of people go to DC from Mason every day, so it is more than doable.

How often do the Mason to Metro busses run? I’m assuming they run 7 days a week too.
Last time we went to GMU we accidently got on a city bus and it sure wasn’t a direct route! Do the busses actually say Metro to Mason?
Is there a cost?

Mason to Metro buses do run every day and for Mason students it is free (though I have never had to show my ID). On weekends Mason to Metro runs later on in the day.

There is also the CUE bus, which is also free to Mason students (ID required). It goes around Fairfax and has a stop at the Metro.

Thanks for the quick response.
