To what extent do universities monitor what students do while using their wifi?

If a student was stupid enough to purchase an illegal substance over the internet, would the school be aware of it?

My internet history looks very incriminating so I'm kind of worried. I bought a plant to use for religious purposes (no that's not just an excuse, I'm really into shamanism), but its legality is blurry in this country because it can be used as a hallucinogenic recreational drug.

There are also several other suspicious-looking Google searches. For example I looked up "how to sell marijuana" but I just looked up those things out of curiosity. I do not and will not actually do it.

To what extent do universities monitor student internet activity? And the school I'm attending is UNC (university of north carolina).

Well not saying that the government doesn’t monitor our activities already but random google searches are not on any ground for investigation unless it involve bombs, weapons, terrorism, radical sites, etc. Those types of thing. Buying a plant for religious purpose should be find as long as you don’t use it other purposes. Just avoid the “illegal” areas of the World wide web and you’ll be fine.

Relax, they have better things to do than keep track of your google searches and your online purchases.

The only things schools may do is bust you for downloading things illegally (and you have to download a lot for them to notice) over their network, but they aren’t going to be checking your online history.

Brown at least did monitor bandwith (or whatever the technical term is for amount of stuff downloaded/uploaded) to prevent file sharing/pirating and would send warning letters to people who were doing to much. As RR said, your porn history is totally safe (don’t try to BS us).
