How closely related are Mathematics and Com Sci?

Would say, a person with a major in pure Mathematics be able to get a job that would normally require a Computer Science degree?

… depends on the job and the math degree.

Judging solely from the pure math majors I have known from my school… probably not a great idea to major in pure math to go into computers as your job.

Would they be able to get a job? Maybe. Would they be qualified? Maybe a little less than most CS majors.

I think it’s fair to say that a CS major would be more qualified for a job requiring a BS in math as a math person would be for a job requiring a BS in CS.

What are you really asking? CS majors learn some pretty specialized stuff, that at least theoretically might be useful on the job later on.

At my school, I’m out of luck applying for the Com Sci program because I’m too far into my college career with too many units. Being a Math major is still open though.

What’s your current major?

A minor in CS would be more useful for CS jobs than a major in pure math.

Right now, it’s Math. But I’m at a crossroads on whether to continue the major or pursue something else.

If you do some probabilistic modeling/scientific computing course work it would help, or you might try to get into CS grad school.

CS is good for ANY major. Definitely pick it up but I wouldn’t stop pursuing my current major. Most engineering professors have a rigorous math and CS background.

I’ve known some math majors who went on to have careers in CS, software engineering, and so forth, but they spent a great deal of time working on computer projects.
