All colleges have programs which are stronger than others. If a college has a stronger bio program, for example, is it harder to get into the college if you apply as a bio major rather than one of their less popular majors?
If a stronger bio program means a more competitive bio program, then I’m assuming it is harder.
I was looking more specifically at UC San Diego’s bio program vs their acceptance rate of economics major.
It depends on whether the college admit students directly into that major or not.
Some schools have equal difficulty obtaining admission all across the various departments. Others - more selective schools - have different criteria for stronger departments (ie. Penn Wharton, Cornell HA etc)
(@viphan, anyone) What if you don’t really know what major you’d like to pursue when applying?
Apply as “undeclared”, then hopefully figure it out once you get to university and declare your major then. Certain majors at the university you end up may be full and not take on additional students, keep that in mind.
Good luck.
If the school does not admit you directly into a major, the answer for intended major is likely for a survey purpose.
