how colleges will look at the new SAT

Stupak-
No, Math 2C and Sat I math are completely different. Therefore, they will be looked upon separately. Although your math 2c is amazing, it cannot replace your score for SAT I math.

I am a junior now My PSAT score from Nov. is 2190(cr=620,m=770,w=800) I also took SAT I first time on Dec.3rd and got 2170(cr=690, m=780, w=700 with 9 for essay -which I could not finish as I ran out of time.) I also do not know what to do. Is this SAT score good enough for some ivy and some second tier good schools or should I retake it Please someone help.

sis1a ur fine. When admissions officers look and see that u retook a 2170, basically a 2200, they're gonna think ur obsessed. Now if u think u can hit like 2300, by all means go for it! Otherwise ur in the 98+ percentile, and definatley good for the ivies

The PSAT and SAT writing scores can vary greatly. I had a friend who took the PSAT and received a 77 on the writing section, and then took the SAT and received "something below 610", as she told me.

thrills 4ever- thank u so much for replying to my message. As I am a new member to this cite, When I did not hear from any one I thought no one will answere me. What you say is true so now I will concentrate on SAT II and AP exams. Only question I have for you is - How much of an advantage will a student have, who only takes SAT once and scores 2170 over a student who takes it several times and scores 2280 or 2300? This is what I am worried about if I will be left behind for not bringing my score up. If you don't mind will you answere my question or whoever reads my message please reply. Thanks

It makes sense that the writing section might not be consistent due to the essay, but what about CR and M? How do most people's scores relate for those two areas between PSAT and SAT?

Hey, I'm a canadian kid who wrote the new SAT I for the first time last year in may. Without ANY prep courses ( I only used the 'question of the day' from college board and the free small booklet my school offers) I scored a 1320. I know that is low. (390=CR, 460=Math, 470=Writing, with 7 for the essay) I wrote the SAT I again, with better preparation, on the 28th (yesterday) and I'm a little skeptical about my score. Compared to the other test takers who posted their score, I'm pretty stupid. However, what if you do well in class and have a higher-than-average GPA, will universities consider that information knowing that Canada's grade system is different than America's?
I'm also an athlete, do universities consider that as well?

one of my friends mentioned this in the english class. This guy from MIT did this experiment where he held the SAT essay far away so he could not read it, just looking at length and how the paragraphs look together, and he was 90 percent accurate at predicting the scores.

Critical Reading - 750

Math - 580

Writing - 760

This turns out to be 1330 on the old scale (id est, accounting for the critical reading/math) and 2090 overall. I've applied to many schools, got into all of them so far, waiting for GWU, Princeton, Harvard, and Georgetown's replies (I want to go to Georgetown, if their financial aid w/ the FAFSA turns out to be sufficient). I want to know how good this REALLY is, because I can't find percentiles for the Writing section (I know, I know, the College Board hasn't "officiated" yet; but I KNOW that someone, somewhere has to have come out with a good estimate of the percentiles). I realize that my math is rather weak (especially when compared to the other two scores), but I believe that the other two will compensate (it really would be saddening for me if they didn't take into perspective the Writing, lol).

Does anyone know if Cornell & JHU mix and matches scores?

"it really would be saddening for me if they didn't take into perspective the Writing, lol"

haha, yeah, I know! I also do pretty well on the writing.

writing blows, or im just bitter

i got a 630 on it with math&cr in the 700s

Just got my sat's back. 2130 total, I'm in the tenth garde and first time I took it. Some people said don't bother to take it again. Will my scores go up if I take it again?

Yes, due to extra years of school. Aim for a 2400, but do not become too obsessed with it.

do you know where i can find a list of colleges and how they consider the writing section? I can't find it anywhere..
(brown, columbia, pomona, yale)
Thanks!
