This is why I think really goes on... people will highly exagerrate or lie to make others intimidated so they won't apply to the schools they are... less competition...

Whoa, that's Putin's problem. I'm in my apartment applying cover-up to my birthmark.

Did I mention I was in a Pizza Hut commercial? AND I instituted glasnost and perestroika! And was president of the Key Club.

I don't think that anyone who lurks/posts here would be intimidated by stats because so much else is involved.....and the numbers of applications submitted to the schools discussed here is rising every year......doesn't show much success in getting too intimidated to apply now does it?

^I agree. A lot of people go to school with others on here, so it's a good way to say you don't stand a chance if I don't stand a chance and I'm better than you.

I know plenty of people who have been slaughtered on here and have given up their dreams so I wouldn't doubt it

I just hate how people will write things like "should I retake my perfect 2400, just to show the admissions officers I can do it again?" and "I got an 800 on my Chemistry, Math IIC, and World History SAT II's, should I take another one?"

So many people don't want to talk about this in public....well except is rare circles. It is fun to hear everyone's opinion and hear about schools you know not much about. Mostly it is fun to imagine all sorts of people who may end up going to school with you.

me too. It's showing off, and they know it. It's blatant and annoying

Plus, it's a great procrastinating tool.

Remember that there are other forums too. Like SAT/ACT, college search, college admissions, etc.

I dread going to school with some of these people. They seem like cocky snobby kids

lol... I main reason I come to this site is for test prep to see what others think of books and such, but otherwise, I rarely look at the "What are my chances" thread, because lets face it, none of us are admissions officers anyway, so what's the point of trying to be.

Smart and accomplished makes you think cocky and snobby? Wow that is a judgement call.

I hate how deceitful some of the kids here are. I ask them what the best book is to study for a certain SAT II, and everyone avoids the post, and the ones who do, write "Princeton Review," which is clearly one of the worst test-prep companies in existance.

I never go to WAMC. Does it really matter if I think you'll get in? I'm no adcom. There are very few people who truly have no idea what their chances are

Yeah, I go through SAT/ACT first. But sometimes I've already gone through all the threads, so then I go to college admissions/search. Chances is the last place I go.

Cele, you're right. Most kids write about the schools they're obviously planning to attend, and to those who post stats (that are semi-normal) that would make them competitve, they write "far reach" just so they won't apply.

Because we are high on iwannagoivyium

Personally, I don't want my stats being flashed for others to see. I'm not ashamed, but I guess I wouldn't want someone I don't know looking at them and laughing. If I see someone who honestly has no clue, then I'll tell them to check out the average stats, etc. but that's it

<_< It doesn't matter to me as much if someone is laughing at my stats, cause hell, I am laughing with them. My stats are who I am (erm... in a sense..)

My SAT grade is a 1870, a little on the low side, but hey(!), its what I measure. Sure it can be a tad bit of a let down to see... thread 1 SAT= 2390 thread 2 SAT= 2400 * Thread 3 SAT= 2290, but in the end, worrying about other peoples scores isn't what really matters.

What matters is how I do, how I can act upon myself to improve, and how the colleges see me through reccomendations, interviews, and gasp the essay!

I like you. You have a good attitude
