Many of my friends have started getting mail and such from colleges (we are all sophomores) but I havn't gotten a single thing. How come? And why do they get it? We have all taken the PSATs. Is that a factor?

If there are schools that you would like more information on, then go to their websites and request it. That's how I began to get massive amounts of materials from schools.

you can do that? really? is sophomore year too early to request it?

ugh thats a blessing... its all from schools you've never heard of and you'd never want to go to. it all comes from if you checked a certain box on your psats or sats (the wanna-receive-crap-from-colleges? box)

but yeah, go to the websites of schools you like and put in your address

but i did check that box!

no, they want to grab you early. The PSAT may have something to do with it if they had better scores and chose to realease them.

also depends on the scores, sex, intended major, and anything else college marketeters are seeking....

aaah! I am truly technologically illiterate. I cant find how to do this! I was trying to do it from princetons website but i dont see any place to do it! help!

I am currently a student at a third tier school in Virginia. I am a freshman with 32 credits and I have managed to earn a perfect 4.0 GPA for first semester taking 12 credits. In high school, I graduated with a 3.07, with a 4.2 for 1st semester senior year, and a 3.8 gpa for the last semester. I got a 1090 on the SAT and a 610 on the writing section. I wanted to know my chances of getting into a school like UPENN. Thank you :)

^this belongs in the "what are my chances" forum

ok, so i figured it out for princeton. but before i press the submit button, is it worth it? is there too much junk mail? will they release my name and info to other people? Or is it all very helpful information?

On many school's websites, if there is a search area, try typing in request information or something like that. If not, look under admissions, it can usually be found there. If not, look for a 'CONTACT US' link, many come up with a box to type in your question, just type in that 'your a prospective student who would like further information regarding their institution. if they could please send you some, it would be greatly appreciated, then put your name and address.'

You'll be able to get it one of those ways.

Haha I love this thread's title...

It's perfectly fine, I started looking the spring of my sophmore year, that's when I first contacted my then first choice Oberlin...and they actually made note of that and remembered 2 years later in a letter...strange, but it did get me an invitation from them to some special open house that they'd pay for me to visit, and I recieved a personal phone call. Hey, ifyou're serious about a school, and it's not something like Stanford (please don't call their admission's office, they hate it, and truly do not care about applied interest, my dad left me with that advice early on aafter starting out in Stanford admission)...but if they are asmaller schools like Oberlin, then sure, contact them, they'll probably be thrilled (bit of an overstatement, but you know what I mean :))

well, my top choice right now is Princeton. same boat as stanford then im guessing

listen man...i got no mail from Chicago when I was a senior, all of my friends did, many had higher PSAT scores, u wanna know what happened in the end?

I got into the U of Chicago, and they all didn't lol, sad but true. You may ask why did that happen, I put a lot of time into the essays and my SAT score, I raised by a lot from my horrible psat score.

to the op..the fact that you are not 'getting any' is the best thing in the entire world..i envy you..the amount of crap mail that I have received from colleges is simply put..ridiculous.

lllllollll.... i thought the thread title was highly amusing...... i thought this was going to be another one of those "what school has the hottest chicks" thread...

why do YOU WANT stuff from colleges? it's spam and has nothing to do with whether they want you or not. It's a waste of paper

You don't want any.

But if you must, just request it from the particular school itself - and be conscious of that decision. They will not leave you alone afterward.
