I plan on attending UCSD. Their website says they no longer sponsor the National Merit Scholarship. How did you get a full ride merit scholarship for the four years at UCSD? Anything you can offer is appreciated.
Thanks!

If you are open minded about where you will consider going to college, with your stats, you will likely find something. You mention WSU a couple of times. If you research what they have for OOS students, it’s pretty clear thatgetting “full ride” from there is not a good possibility. Do you know anyone of all of your acquaintances who got a full ride or a generous award from there? Some schools just don’t have much to give out for someone in a particularly category and it’s like trying to squeeze water out of a dry stone to be trying to get anything there. By all means, throw in an app, just in case, but look for more promising options.

There was a thread, now in the archives by Momfromtexas that gives a good methodology for finding Full Ride scholarships. Using that method and focusing on those schools that are not well known where you would be a shining star really gives you a very good chance of finding a full ride or close to one. Looking at schools where the money and possibilities there, mean you are buying lotteriy tickets, but it can happen. Applying at schools where the websites and info have no full ride scholarships for OOS students and where the financial aid stats are not so hot, is like trying to squeeze water out of stone.

you probably can’t. My niece got a NMF scholarship from UCSD about 8 years ago, but it wasn’t even close to a full ride. It was maybe a few thousand.

What is your situation?

Are you instate for Calif?

Besides being a likely NMF, what are your GPA and test scores?

what is your major?

Hmph. Four year old thread. How long before some people answer the OP?

Ok my parents make about 120k a year combined, but they don’t want to pay more than 5-10k a year for college… is getting large amounts of merit aid feasible if you have a 4.0 and good test scores and stuff?
@annana You may want to start your own thread with your question, this thread is a few years old.
Thread is closing in …4…3…2…
lol whoops
