How common is it to grade on a curve?

10 chars...

i wonder if someone is going to type "What is 10 chars?" I'd be amused. You'll look and see someone responded and then come to find that it's just some new user confused with our lingo. Although, you'll feel similarly when you look and find that I responded just to discover that I, too, do not have any valuable input (yet I have copious time to ramble on about nothing pertaining to your inquiry). Yes, so...curves...um, i like 'em. as far as grades, not sure. :D

It's pretty common at my school. Okay, not pretty common - if the class fails, there's a curve. Otherwise, no.

Why do you ask?

I've had teachers curve test grades once in a while when they were terribly bad (this has happened maybe five times), but only once have I had a class where the entire class was curved.

I've never had a class that was really graded on a curve. In fact, I'm not sure if I've ever had a test or anything graded on a curve.

My chem teacher grades on a curve but he uses the questions from the IB HL exam for a SL class so...ya...

My tests have only been graded on a curve 2 times this year:
1) APUSH: by a few points because the highest grade was a 92 but the second highest grade was a 74
2) Chemistry: because the highest grade in the class was a 72. yeah.

At my school, they only curve when most people don't do so great on tests.

at my school, only certain teachers do. well, actually only a handful. there's this one math teacher that my friend had a 67 in the class and than on the curve, got a 96. yup. you betcha.

My Chemistry/AP Chem/Physics teacher graded all our tests on a curve, by adjusting points by the adjusting to the highest grade in the class. She's the only teacher I've had who did that though.

I only know of one class at my school that curves grades--AP Physics. Other teachers only curve if the whole class BOMBED the test.

Our teachers usually give tests given to them by the textbook company so they curve pretty often because they don't teach us some of the things on the test.

I've never had a teacher who makes their own test curve.

yeaaaah, curves. well, honors classes rarely curve, even if only like 2 people do okay. They might add a bonus assignment for ten points, if that counts as a "curve" as it's a whole assignment...

regular classes-oh lordy. They curve on everything!

hmm
my physics midterm was curved
that's the only time i can remember

psh my school curves NOTHING!!!! I hate it. In my PIB bio class, my teacher decided to give us an AP quiz with things we didn't know about. Only 4 people out of 19 passed (highest being an 82) and refused to curve it. I passed with a 70 :). I hated that teacher....
