How Competitive are admissions to Cornell Chemical Engineering?

How competitive are admission to Cornell ChemE? (Thinking about ED)
What type of statistics would be needed for this admission plan and major?

You will apply to the college of engineering, so you should have

-at least top 10% of the class
-taken AP science and math classes and get A’s in them (particularly calculus and chemistry) if your school offers them

 • at least a ~1450 CR/M SAT with a very high, if not perfect, math score
 • 700+ on Math II and any of the science SAT subject tests
 • if not SAT, then a ~33+ ACT composite

And you should be in the running.

Note: extra boost if you are a female, Minority, legacy, or development admit (meaning parents donated large amounts of money to Cornell)

Plenty of applicants have those stats however, so aim for as high as you can in the class and score a 1500+ SAT or a 34+ ACT to stand out more.

I more or less agree with Cortana – but differ slightly.

For Engineering – Top 10% of the class is pretty standard – top 5% is better.
SAT – I would say that at or close to 1400 is important. If you’re at the bottom of this range, then it helps to have something else on your resume to bring you up. Math doesn’t have to be perfect – but does have to be very strong – A 650 CR may be ok with a strong math score – a 650 math score would probably be very low.
ACT 32-33 is probably average. More is better.

I agree with Cortana that female, minority or alum/development admit) will help maybe even A LOT.

Female admit rate for COE is the highest of any of Cornell’s colleges for male/female subgroups (over twice as high for females as opposed to males) .

I think I saw it somewhere, but engineering male admit rates dropped from 16.6% last year to 12.8% this year (or something like that). But judging from your other thread, you’re academically strong.
