By competitive, I DO NOT mean how hard it is to get in, or how good the school is. By competitive, I’m asking about the students. Are they collaborative with each other? Do people care more about their academics (gpa, internships, whatever) than about their friends? From what I have heard, Brown is pretty chill and people aren’t very competitive with each other, but maybe these are just false.
Not false
hahaha thx
My daughter graduated last year and I think she would agree with @iwannabe_Brown. She was a CS major and I only heard great stories about collaboration – nothing about competitiveness among students with each other.
Not competitive with each other, even in the notorious pre-med weed-out courses. From my med school classmates who went elsewhere for undergrad, I heard horror stories. None of that at Brown.
The collaborative culture at brown, even among STEM concentrators, is one of the features my son, who graduated as a neuro concentrator, loved most about his brown experience. The course material is definitely challenging, but the experience isn’t made worse by crazy competitive peers.
2nd that. Also blew my mind that there were kids who said medical school was more fun than undergrad.
My son just finished his first year at Brown and I’d say Brown has a collaboration culture. My son didn’t feel any competition and enjoyed working with and learning from his fellow students.
The lax/optional grading systems reduces competitiveness.
