How competitive are Claremont McKenna Merit Based Scholarships?

Hi everyone, so I just found out that the deadline for Merit scholarships for CMC is December 1st and I am considering whether I should turn in my app. early and apply or if I should take more time on my application to give myself a better chance of actually getting in. My counselor said that CMC is a slight reach for me, so I am guessing that getting one of their 25 or so merit scholarships would not be very likely. Do you think I should spend more time on my app. or send it in by December 1st and therefore apply for merit scholarships?

Thanks!

Well…do you need to get a merit scholarship to be able to attend CMC? If you do, then you should submit the application so that you can at least be considered for merit awards. If you don’t need to have the aid, then take the time to do a good application for admissions.

Bottom line…think about this…if you NEED the merit money to attend, it will do you no good to get accepted without it.

Um, I don’t really need merit money because I think I can get a good amount of need-based aid. The reason I am asking is because it seems like very people get these scholarships and I am in no way a shoo-in for CMC so I am worried that rushing on the application will not be a smart idea when the scholarships seem like a long shot. I am just wondering if more people get them then CMC likes to say.

Thanks for the reply!

I am in the same boat. Currently rushing to finish for the scholarship, when I doubt I will get it. Don’t know if it’s better to wait and do a better job or just finish…
