How competitive are direct entry 3+3 pre-physical therapy programs? Can anyone help quantify this?

Hello all, my daughter (high school class of 2020) is interested in direct entry 3+3 physical therapy programs. I keep reading that the programs are very competitive to get into, but can anyone with experience who has either gotten into the program or whose child has gotten into a program tell me what “competitive” really means?

She took the ACT and got a 29, and will have around a 3.87-3.9 (unweighted) when submitting applications (grades haven’t been posted yet). She will have taken nine honors/AP/IB classes by the time she graduates. She’s one of two drum majors chosen for the school year. She played hockey for 10 years but isn’t currently. She has some volunteer work (mostly hockey related) and she’s going to start shadowing in a physical therapy office in July. Our high school is ranked in the top 10 public high schools in the state of Pennsylvania, it’s known to be a very rigorous curriculum and is usually ranked the #1/#2/#3 in Western PA on various lists.

I thought that would be good enough to get her into some schools but I keep reading how competitive the direct entry programs are and I was wondering if anyone could help quantify if she’s competitive. She’s planning on applying to Duquesne, Quinnipiac, Chatham (if they do roll out a 3+3 for 2020, she sent an email out about that today) and some others, she’s just not sure where. She hated Slippery Rock and she doesn’t like Pitt’s campus.

Thoughts?

My daughter has very similar stats and was just accepted at Duquesne in their 3 +3 program. The money they offered is lower than some other offers.

My D applied to all those schools in 2018 and was accepted to all with very good merit. It is competitive, but doable. She had. 1290 SAT and 4.5gpa. But what she was told by 2 universities was her shadowing hours she did in the summer made it an easy decision for them.

I know someone with roughly those stats accepted to Scranton.

I’m not sure how competitive direct entry to the program is, but your daughter far surpasses the minimum requirements at Misericordia.

@HappyNJOOS when your D was accepted into the physical therapy program, did her acceptance letter indicate she got into the program? Just wondering because my D was accepted but it didn’t mention the actual physical therapy program. She just emailed the admissions advisor but i was hoping you would be able to shed some light. Thanks in advance!
