How competitive are intramurals?

I know that at som schools, intramurals are more for students who barely missed making the team. Are intramural sports like soccer this competitive at Brown?

I really don’t know but will point out that we have both intramural and club sports in addition to varsity sports.

I have played no organized soccer since elementary school. I was asked to be on an intramural team. For most sports, there’s two levels, the low and high level. From what I can tell, the high level is filled largely with people who played in high school, or are very athletic, while the lower level is usually a mix of people who know what they’re doing and people who don’t really.

I think the club level, where they actually play teams from other schools, would be more for the almost-varsity level player. In general, intramurals are pretty relaxed, with each team having a game maybe once or twice a week (and little to no organized practice), for about 4-8 weeks, depending on the sport and season.

My daughter played an intramural last year, not soccer, in a sport she had never encountered before. She never played a sport in high school – she did this just for fun and to be with her friends.
