How competitive are these schools?

Hi I'm looking to apply to Ph.D programs in Political Science/IR at following schools: Johns Hopkins, USC, Berkeley, Stanford, and UCSD. I've looked at the websites but found only limited information. How good my GPA/GRE should be to be competitive? What are their prestige in field of political science/IR?

This is just a stab in the dark, but I would say your GPA should probably be above 3.5 in undergraduate work or subsequent postgrad work, if you already have a master’s. GRE scores are difficult to predict. I’m not sure about these schools, but some schools don’t take the GRE into all that much consideration while others do. Many someone else can help?

From what I understand from a friend in Poly Sci/IR, PhD programs are all competitive and it will depend on a lot of factors. Your GPA and the school you got your master’s or bachelor’s from will be taken into consideration, as will your GRE, but those, of course, are not everything.

Good luck!
