how competitive is admission to different programs?

Anyone have info on admission to the different majors? I am guessing there are different numbers for the various programs. I know acting is extremely competitive (a kid from our town got in a few years ago, there was something like 10 applicants for every spot), same with other performing arts and film. My daughter is interested in writing and literature. Is that also very competitive?

Not as competitive, but still competitive.
I applied and was accepted to Writing for TV and Film but was rejected ED for Film Studies at NYU
but my friend was accepted Acting BFA at NYU but rejected at Emerson.
It’s always hard to tell how it works.

I’m not sure if they school releases how many kids per major though…All their programs are selective with the Performing Arts ones being more so than others.

I’m a Senior Film Production Major at Emerson.

I’ve had friends trying to switch majors and its ugly. The Emerson Administration is one of the most difficult people I have ever worked with.

It’s already been said. Performing Arts and Film Production is very hard. More often than not kids don’t get in and they’re told to do something similar like Media studies. It’s really stupid.

WLP major (Writing Literature Publishing) is hard to but not nearly as hard as the two I already mentioned.

Hi, I’m a junior in the writing program here at Emerson and I think the portfolio that your daughter submits plays a big part. If admissions see that she has gone lengths to follow a passion, they will be far more likely to overlook a poor gpa, for example. In the greater picture, the writing department probably is less competitive than say, film, but not by much.
