How competitive is Brown? What kind of stats do you need?

Brown has an extremely low acceptance rate, but it is not like as hard as getting into Harvard or Yale. A lot of liberal kids apply, thinking they got a shot, and they aren't that competitive. Brown admissions are RANDOM as they get...

are you talking about brown undergrad or brown med program (PLME) ?

Talkin about PLME

in that case, it IS harder to get into than Harvard or Yale- atleast in terms of the acceptance rate

Brown PLME actually has a lower acceptance rate than Harvard or Yale, but this doesn't necessarily mean it's more difficult to get into. fyi, there were 82 accepted this year out of 1536 applicants. Brown is indeed very random, for both its undergrad and PLME....they're looking for a certain type of person. It's also less numbers-based than other programs. There's someone on the Brown board who got into PLME with a ~1200 SAT.

From what I've observed, PLME tends to admit someone who is one or more of the following:
1) very dedicated to medicine and a true humanitarian
2) has a passion for humanities that they don't want to lose out on as a premed (50% of PLME students have humanities majors)
3) very strong in research and science. Last year's Intel STS first place winner was a freshman in PLME this year.

well said, asterstar

I stayed with the guy you mentioned in point #3 during ADOCH... Herbert Mason Hedberg, the coolest person ever. That sealed the deal for me.

Are you planning to take the Care vs. Cost class next year? PM or e-mail me, the PLME bbq and meeting are coming up in a few months haha.
