How competitive is CoE?

Is it the kind of school that rejects 4.4s and 2250+'s regularly even with okayish EC's and only takes the 5.0s and 2400s?

Or is it so that with high enough stats and a decent essay you're nearly guaranteed admission?

Well, I got into the College of Engineering (specifically, EECS) with around a 4.3ish weighted and with an SAT superscore of 2100… but then again, that was last year and from what I heard, Berkeley “overadmitted” that year or something.

When [Looking for StatFinder? | UCOP](http://statfinder.ucop.edu) was up (with most recent stats from 2009), it indicated that frosh applicants with 4.2+ HS GPA (UC weighted) and SAT scores of 700+ per section had a good (but not certain) chance for engineering, but it did not break it down to each major (Berkeley CoE selectivity varies by major).

The Hout report at http://academic-senate.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/committees/aepe/hout_report_0.pdf</a> (page 28) indicated that, back in 2004, bioengineering, engineering undeclared, materials science and engineering, and EECS were the most selective CoE majors, while nuclear, mechanical, and civil engineering were the least selective (indeed, they appeared to be slightly less selective for admissions than L&S; see page 22). However, since that was nine years ago, the popularity of, and therefore selectivity of, each major is likely to be different now.
