How competitive is liberal studies or history at cal poly slo?

I’m currently a junior and cal poly slo is at the top of my lists. i know engineering and architect is really competitive but what about liberal studies or history? My gpa isn’t too high as the highest gpa i can possibly get it to is 3.4-3.6 and i find out my SAT scores tomorrow. But let’s say I got a 1200  should i take the ACT too?

Liberal Arts is competitive too. Here are the stats and the link:

Liberal Arts averages are GPA: 3.79; ACT: 26; SAT1: 1189

Cal Poly prefers the ACT but accepts the SAT no problem. You should try it and make sure that you hire a qualified tutor with a verifiable record of success. Work hard and definitely apply. Good luck!

Just fyi, liberal arts is different from liberal studies. Liberal studies is an actual major. The major is in the college of math and science, not liberal arts. It’s generally what you major in if you want to be an elementary school teacher. Neither that nor history is as competitive as say engineering, but you still need to have a pretty good gpa and good test scores to be accepted. I think you should try taking the ACT. I personally liked it better than the SAT and thought it was maybe a little bit easier even.

Yeah, I know liberal arts and liberal studies is different. I wanted to either become an elementary school teacher or a history teacher :P

Idk if this will help, but I applied to SLO as a liberal studies major and I got in two days ago.
My stats aren’t great either:
GPA weighted: 3.8
SAT/ACT: 1180/1600 & 24
Extracurriculars/Leadership: Quite a few

I would say with your GPA, you would probably have to have extracurriculars that relate to your major, and a pretty good (above 1200) SAT or ACT.
