how competitive is richmond scholars?

anyone know the avg stats and gpa?
also how generous is financial aid without merit scholarships assuming I have efc close to 0

Richmond pledges to meet 100% of financial need for US students if admitted. Your financial package will include the federal direct loan of $5500 freshman year and probably a work study component as well. Don’t know if you qualify for Pell. You would still need to come with your efc + $$ for travel, books, and incidentals.

I do not know the average stats, but DD1 and DD2 are both Richmond Science Scholars.

DD1 had 2300 SAT, 1600 CR+math,3.9 GPA u/w, 7 APs, paid internship, varsity athlete/state finalist in swimming, good ecs. She has a full ride scholarship, and a small National Merit Scholarship.

DD2 had 2230 SAT, 1480 CR + math, 35 ACT, 3.9 GPA u/w, 7 APs, paid internship, rest of stats similar to DD1.She received a full tuition scholarship, and a small National Merit Scholarship as well. I think she also may have gotten a bit of a boost because her sister was already a scholar and doing well at UR. They probably thought(correctly) that she would likely attend if they offered her the scholarship.

Good luck to you!

I don’t think UofR publishes stats on scholars because they look pretty holistically when deciding and the stats very significantly by designation. Last year, there were 4,900 scholar applicants and of those 425 were semifinalists. They choose approx 100 finalists and award approx 45 scholarships. So pretty competitive. I am an artist scholar. I had a 1980 SAT, 33 ACT, 3.6 GPA u/w, 3.9 GPA w (i know, lower stats), attended STEM magnet school consistently ranked #1 in the country, and was a first-in-state musician.

thanks, also, how many schools are there. 3? arts and science, jepsen and robins?

There’s 3 undergraduate schools, the law school, and school of continuing studies. You only apply for arts and science for freshman admit, once you’re a student you can apply to the other two during your sophomore year.

If you are selected as a semi finalist is safe to assume you are admitted into the university?

@ninadasiy‌ most, if not all, semi-finalists are admitted. They reserve the right not to admit you though- possible reasons include recent disciplinary issue or poor 7th semester grades. So no, not safe to assume, but very likely.
