How Competitive is the BHP for Out-Of-State Students?

I'm applying to colleges this year and I'm really interested in UT's Business Honors Program. I'm planning to double major in finance and computer science because I want to become a quant. My application is stronger for business and econ, so I'll be applying for business, not engineering.

I'm familiar with UT's strong reputation for engineering, but until recently, I didn't know that it was good for business as well. The Business Honors Program looks pretty solid in my opinion, so I'd really like to apply for it. In the past week however, a lot of people have told me that its very difficult to get into UT out-of-state, especially it auto-admits the top 8% of Texan high-schoolers. The Business Honors Program seems more competitive than the University, so I'm worried that I'll have almost no chance at all. I have a few questions on UT-Austin and the BHP, and I was hoping that someone on this thread could answer them.

1) Does anyone have statistics on the % of OOS students admitted to the BHP? I only found overall admit rates to the BHP.
2) Can you apply to the BHP in your freshman year at UT-Austin? Are there any disadvantages to doing so compared to getting in as a freshman?
3) Can you apply to both the BHP and the regular business program? In other words, if you get rejected by the BHP, can you still get in to the business school itself?
4) Is it easier to get into UT-Austin (at any of its colleges) by applying EA? There are some schools, like UMichigan, where its virtually impossible to get in unless you apply early.
5) How many colleges at UT-Austin can you apply to when you submit your application?
6) Is the business school much more competitive than the engineering school? If so, what are the most recent acceptance %'s for each?

Also, here are some of my stats.

Objective:[ul]
[]SAT I: 2320
[]SAT II: 800's on two tests, including Math II
[]Unweighted GPA without Freshman Year (out of 4.0): 3.85 (strong upward trend and very rigorous courseload)
[] AP: Taken 14 AP exams, none of which were self-studied (this should give you some idea of my courseload). I took 8 exams in junior year alone.
[]Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): My school doesn't rank, but probably top 15%
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Finalist, US Physics Olympiad Semifinalist, many state-level awards in physics and finance
[]Ethnicity: Asian
[]Gender: M
[li]High School Type: Public[/li][/ul]

As for your #1, it’s unlikely you’ll find this info without asking BHP directly. See this data compilation–there were 595, or 8.4%, total OOS students in UT’s freshman class last fall. http://www.utexas.edu/academic/ima/sites/default/files/SHB11-12Students.pdf

And #6, similarly, I can’t recall seeing acceptance rates published by school, but you can look at the freshman profile for both schools and their respective honors programs. Go to McCombs and Cockrell websites.

Obviously, you have everything go for you but rank. UT will estimate your rank based on the school profile and grade distribution your GC supplies. Read about it on the Be A Longhorn site and talk with your GC to learn where you’ll stand. Be sure to take advantage of the expanded resume opportunity and knock 'em dead on your essays.

Did you know that UMich Engineering has a financial engineering program that is geared toward students who want to become quants? [Master of Science in Financial Engineering at Michigan Engineering](http://financialeng.engin.umich.edu/)

It is a graduate level program, but you would be able to take financial engineering courses when you are an undergrad and earn a combined undergrad/grad degree. http://ioe.engin.umich.edu/degrees/SGUSgeneral.pdf
