I applied to Penn State UP to the College of Communications for public relations by the priority deadline. My status online has changed to the one that says “We are in the final stages of review…” so I should be hearing back within the next day or so. Out of curiosity, though, how competitive is the College of Communications compared to some of Penn State’s other schools? I know that Smeal and Engineering, are very competitive, but I haven’t heard much about what I’m competing with to get in.
My daughter applied to Communications back in the beginning of October. Her status is still reviewing credentials. I called admissions back in late November asking for guidance about changing to DUS since he ACT score is low- only 25. They told me that Communications is evaluated same as DUS, so it would not matter. This seemed to let me know that it is not as competitive as Smeal or Engineering at all.
@rofiorillo thanks for letting me know, that makes me a bit more hopeful about the outcome. Best of luck to your daughter!
Hoping that you receive decisions post-haste. Just a diversion, PSU has added a rather intriguing internship opportunity:

Good luck!
That looks awesome!!!
@pilot2012 that looks amazing! I just got accepted today, so who knows. Maybe I’ll take part in that internship in a few years.
Hey may I ask what your scores were? I asked recently to be reevaluated for communications when I was moved to a branch for marketing. But I realized I didn’t even want to do business anymore. So I’m a bit nervous because I think I gave up my spot at a branch :0
^ @ansil15
@mtbd1996 When you ask to be reconsidered, I don’t think you give up your spot where you were accepted.
@jlhpsu really? I hope not because I’d like to attend either way.
@mtbd1996 I’m OOS from New Jersey. My weighted GPA is a 3.49, not sure about my unweighted (I go to a top non-magnet public high school in my state). My superscored SAT is a 1990, and my highest in one sitting is 1900. My school doesn’t rank so I don’t know where I fall (probably not the top 25% though since my school’s VERY competitive). I’ve taken 8 accelerated, what my school calls honors, courses (12 including semester long classes) and 1 AP class. Besides just scores, I had demonstrated interested in communications since I took a digital video class first semester this year, I’m taking a communications class this semester, and I’m part of my school’s broadcast studio. That might’ve made a difference. Best of luck!
@ansil15 ahh thanks! I took so many business courses because I thought I’d be going for business. Hopefully my email asking to be reevaluated explains everything. thanks again! and congrats!
