How competitive is the University of Toronto?

I’m off to UC Davis, but I can’t seem to find any admission statistics about U of T. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can chance me to the U of T engineering (even though I’m already headed to another school).

SAT: 2130 (740M, 750W, 640R)
SAT 2’s: Math: 780 Chem: 760
UW GPA: 3.79. Weighted GPA is around 4.0…
I did dual enrollment and have 54 quarter units racked up. I have a 3.88 GPA at community college.

I had a marketing internship and was a treasurer of my high school cinema, and I have about 200 volunteer hours doing various services (mostly from a hospital).

I usually got A’s in math and science classes. My GPA is a result of doing worse in the humanities.

I think your in, solely going off of the accepted kids at my school who have stats that are not nearly as good.

@SternBusiness thanks. Do you know where I can find admissions stats… if there are any?

Also, can anyone else also chance me?

This could help. I think you will have no trouble getting in…

@SternBusiness thanks for the chance! But like I said, I’m already an incoming freshman somewhere else. I was just wondering how competitive Canadian schools are since my luck in the US didn’t go so well during admissions time.

It’s much easier to get into Canadian schools. My kid got I to McGill but decided not to go there. As long as she had 600 SAT per section if I recall.

@DrGoogle hmm interesting. I’m Indian and my parents thought U of T was the equivalent of Harvard or some sorts. I’ve been hearing that it’s easier to get in as well. Do you think I would get in for the U of T engineering or any other prestigious university in Toronto? I have heard that U of T is the most prestigious… correct me if I am wrong.

McGill is the Harvard of Canada from what I’ve been told. But each college is strong in certain area. U of Toronto probably is better in engineering while McGill is better for premeds and sciences.

The minimum SAT’s required for McGill vary by program, For Life Sciences a 680 is needed in each of the 3 sections of the SAT I plus 2 SAT II’s. An 1800 SAT would likely only be admitted to Education and Agriculture.

My memory is not good but I recalled that was the minimum either 650 or higher.

@TomSrOfBoston @DrGoogle http://www.mcgill.ca/studentaid/scholarships-aid/future-undergrads/entrance-scholarships/criteria over here it says you need a 4.0 UW GPA for last 2 years of high school and a 700 on each section of the sat. It seems that I would not get in with my stats then?

Those are the minimum requirements for major merit scholarships at McGill, not for admission.

Here are the admission minimum requirements for admission:

@TomSrOfBoston oh ok, also, the university of toronto does NOT release its statistics publicly like McGill correct?

Not sure. Canadian university websites are labyrinths.

I’m not entirely sure how Canadian schools do international admissions since I’m Canadian, but from what I know about admissions (at least for U of T and McGill) is that there is a much greater emphasis on grades and holistic admissions pretty much don’t exist (except maybe at UBC).

At McGill, for American applicants, it is SAT or ACT scores and unweighted GPA, period. If you are a “bad test taker” you are out of luck. There are also no hooks: URM, legacy, athletics etc.
