My D is auditioning for UArts in Philly and I am curious as to how selective they are. The admission counselor said about 800 audition there every year and they accepted about 135 dancers last year. They don’t have a certain number that they take each year. Part of the audition process is a solo and you can do whatever you want, including hip hop. So, I am wondering how much your training and technique factor into the decision or can you can you get by with lesser technique and good movement quality. Does anyone know how important the tecnique factor is or is it easier to get in there vs. Point Park?
The dancers I know who’ve gotten in in recent years are not super technical. I wouldn’t consider it to be a crazy, competitive school to get into. My own D eliminated UArts from her list when we went to visit. It just wasn’t the right school for her.
I would definitely say that Point Park is much more selective, especially for the BFA track. When my D auditioned for Uarts, I am pretty sure they said their acceptance rate was pretty high. I don’t think they are as specific on technique as they believe they are teaching the whole dancer. I would say between the two, technique is more important at PP.
