sorry for so many posts, but I have a lot of questions.

earlier this summer while I was in Boston for a high schooler program at Boston University I had an "informal" interview at Emerson College (my top choice). they don't really do interviews, but I went out of my way and got in touch with the adcom for my region (southeast) and we talked for like 45 mins. the end result was that he seemed to really like me, he said he would fight for me when I submitted my application, he really wanted to see me go there, etc.
now, will this be assimilated into my "file" at Emerson, or what? I'm guessing this guy will read my app since he is in charge of my region and there will probably only be around 1500 applicants for EA. could this help my chances, or was it all for nothing?

thanks.

Well, since he said that he would fight for you when you submit your application and that he really wants to see you go there, you should take that as a great sign!!

The guy you had your interview with will probably read your app. Having interviews lets him know more about you, and that is very helpful when he's sorting through tons and tons of applications, trying to figure out what the applicants' characters are. What can they contribute to the school? What makes them special? How will they use the school's resources? How are they good fits for the school? Who are they? These questions are always in the minds of the admissions officers.

You can't seriously think that he even said he wanted you there and say that the interview was all for nothing, can you?

Interviews rarely, rarely hurt your chances of acceptance, but they often help. Then again, lots of people will probably do interviews. That's important to keep in mind.

Make sure you write him a thank-you note! Personalize it! Recap on some things you talked about during the interview and how meaningful and fun it was. And make sure you got his e-mail address or something so you can keep in touch! Make friends with him! That is one of the purposes of the interview! This is a MUST!

sequentially:

I'm just really, REALLY neurotic about my chances.

Emerson doesn't normally do interviews at all, it was just pure happenstance that I got an interview there.

well I sent him a thank-you note a few weeks ago (strangely it came back to me once, but I sent it back again and it hasn't come back yet) along with a newspaper clipping of an article I wrote. I'm planning on calling him tomorrow and asking him a few questions about the Emerson application, maybe ask for some essay-writing tips, et al. I'm just worried he won't read my app and will forget about me and this will all be in vain! :(

mtngoat1, your interview gets factored in. Your interviewer probably took notes about the interview either during or right after the interview. If he reads the app, it's great. If he doesn't, he gives his notes to the people who will read your application. So no matter what, PEOPLE WILL KNOW ABOUT YOUR INTERVIEW, SO STOP FREAKING OUT!!!

Also, keep in mind that not only one person will read your application. There's usually more than one person who will read it. Sometimes they have groups (actual committees) that discuss your transcript, essays, recommendations, test scores, everything and then they have a vote of whether to accept, deny, or wait-list.

Stop worrying. Plus, if you truly loved Emerson and wanted to get in, you will apply and do a good job no matter what. And remember, everyone who will read your app will talk about how they haven't gotten an applicant from Alabama in a long time.

yeah, that's very consoling. thanks for the help man, i really appreciate it. cheers!

Sure, and keep in mind that college admissions officers won't bother themselves and their applicants to have an interview that won't be factored in.

that's true. I almost made him late for a meeting because he had to show me the train I had to take, so there's no way he could completely disregard my interview :p
thanks man.
