How could css profile schools verify me?

Columbia states:

Have you had a break in your education since graduating high school?

If a person has zero income and is independent then they are probably actually DEPENDENT on someone, but don’t want to say so for FA reasons. OR they do have an income but are NOT REPORTING it on their taxes.

Don’t see how any other scenario is possible, but I admit I could be wrong…The scenarios I presented do seem likely because the poster is concerned about how they could be verified (caught).

I agree as last year 2011, Op was a dependent student, where parents income and assets would be used. S/he would only be eligible for $6,500 in stafford loans, which is not enough to attend an OOS school and have living expenses.

Someone had to have paid his expenses of given money on his behalf (NJ2011mom is correct, that these monies should be reflected on the current FAFSA since it looks at income/assets for year 2011)

If they have zero income and no assets and no job they probably can’t “afford” to be independent AND attend college. Perfect set up for an admit/deny type packaging. Plus the OP says he’s/she’s applying to “alot” of CSS schools which are some of the most expensive in the country. Verification is the least of the concerns. OP you’ll have to come back and let us know how it all turns out…
