How could you checked your UCSD point scale if you got admitted?

The cut off this year was 7426. Call the admission office number on your triton link screen

^i just called admissions to see by how many points i made the cut off and the lady is like "why would u want to know? is it for bragging rights?" so if u got admitted, then they wont tell u the number of points u had or missed the cutoff by.

@ripcurl hahahahaha that made me laugh out loud for some reason :)

well they really do have better things to do than answer the questions of some self indulgent halfwit

serves you right

^f.uck u. i was just calling to ask them cuz my friend had pretty much the exact same stats as me and didnt get in and so i was curious to see what was the factor that got me in and him rejected.

xorwat is obviously a very angry person. go take a walk.

ur right ^

Does point total have anything to do with getting Regents/Chancellors?

"People that have no activities, leadership position, and just spends their time concentrating on getting a high gpa (4.0-4.4gpa) is NOT a well-balanced applicant. It is easy to get straight A's if you don't have to sacrifice time in sports, band practice, debate, and music concerts, etc or anything involving school."

i am sick and tired of hearing well balanced and well rounded....cliche

if the ucsd point system is so great why does only ucsd use it? exactly, point system = bs
but noone worry ill win my appeal and go to la

What's the point of complaining on a forum like this about it? Is it going to make any difference at all? All it does is annoy some people and show off your immaturity.

"i was just calling to ask them cuz my friend had pretty much the exact same stats as me and didnt get in and so i was curious to see what was the factor that got me in and him rejected.:

curiosity --> self indulgence --> waste
QED

note that I'm not the one cursing at other people, so watch who you call angry

and all that super ecs and stuff on regents is bull since I have next to no ec's and got regents

Yeah, because it's clear their methods have been unsuccessful with how poor UCSD's reputation is, and how unintelligent the student body is.

Let's all cry over it simply because under the system, I'm unqualified, right?

i personally love the point system. it measures acceptance in a way students can SEE for themselves. when colleges get too subjective in admissions, it gets me a little irritated. i think it's a great system that let's in those who are studious and worked hard towards getting into college.

btw i got rejected myself but i am ok with it =P.

The well-rounded student model is gone. The new type adcoms are looking for is the student with passion. You don't need lots of ec's, rather you need to show passion in one or two, and tie them clearly to your proposed major. In the end everything you put on your application should tie nicely together to present you as a passionate individual with a sense of purpose and direction. The adcoms want to know how you will fit in the university, and what you will contribute.

I'm not sure i agree with the GPA system. A student that took many all regular classes and thus had no homework could theoretically get a 3.9+. He could add a few extracurriculars and have a SAT of 1900+ and he'd be all set. A student taking 3 APs that all weigh him down could end up with a 3.6, which still isnt bad, and have vastly superior SAT scores. He could even have the same amount of extracurriucalrs. But because his gpa is .3 lower, he might get rejected since GPA is weighted so high. Is this fair? The second student may even go to a harder school! and yes, if this sounds like an example its me lol. and dont say i dont go to a hard school, i go to lowell in SF

lowell is one of the best in the country
i heard competition is cut throat

lol its not that bad, the kids are nice. THough the ones out just for grades can be really testy. Most of the kids are nice, its just they're so dang smart too. It's not a good environment for a lazy person like me =/ But its ok. It seems like the cutoff to get into davis from lowell is like 3.4

Adcoms are aware of the competitive high schools and also look at how many AP's a student has. There was also the opportunity to write about your educational opportunities where you could have discussed some of this information in your application packet.

The problem is..as i understand it...they just put your GPA into a computer and it spits out a value for it. They don't take into account at UCSD that I (or many of my friends that are highly qualified) go to a very competitive high school. We hadthe highest average pass rate in the nation for BOTH AP economics exams last year. But it doesnt seem like ucsd takes this into account.

Most colleges view under-performing at a competitive school as not taking advantage of your educational opportunities. Some students achieve despite being in terrible schools under difficult situations. That is just how the statistics are viewed. I'm not saying in every case I agree. I think they need to look at students for their individual situations.
