How crappy are my ECs?

I really need an honest evaluation of my extracurricular’s. A lot of them are church based and while I have a lot of leadership positions I really didn’t win like state or won a ton of awards. My awards section is basically empty.

  1. Debate Captain ( LD ) despite a speech impediment ( stutter that used to be much worse before debate ). Even though I'm captain, I only got it because people in the team respect me, not because I was the best debater. I really didn't win a ton of awards but I did a crap-ton to help novices. (9,10,11,12)
  2. Philosophical Inquiry Club Founding Member and President - organized a reading schedule and led discussions over readings ( Nietzsche, Derrida, ect. ) (11,12)
  3. Activities Director for Church - Led major games and activities for church. (10,11,12)
  4. Co-President and Founder of a Church-Based Organization - Organizes cards that are created from children of various churches and sends them to various nursing homes and hospitals every year. (11,12)
  5. Member of Technology Solutions Organization at school - Pretty much just provides tech support to teachers lol

I’m pretty involved in all of these but debate will probably go in the backburner at least for a little bit until I 100% finish college apps.

My EC’s really aren’t unique and all, but they were things all things I enjoyed doing. I know they’re crap compared to most HYP applicants lol.

How are they for schools like Emory,Northwestern, UT Austin, Boston College, and Cornell?

They’re good.

Your ECs are fine. Don’t worry about them. You realize most ppl don’t win state or whatever award in what they compete in. It seems like you’ve been really dedicated to 2-3 main things (Debate, Philosophy, and your Church group) which is great and really the max a college can expect from most students. For the more selective schools you’re applying to like Northwestern and Cornell I’d start to focus more on grades, test scores, and essays than ECs.

They are okay for the schools you are applying to. Work on getting good essays.

They def. aren’t crappy, be proud of your ec’s because some of them are pretty cool and notable.

I’m jealous of your philosophical inquiry club.
