I recently visited Penn and did not get the super competitive impression that people have mentioned on CC. So, how cutthroat is Wharton?

I heard that it’s not as cutthroat as you hear lol

It’s not really that bad at all. I tell people all the time it’s competitive, but that’s because everyone is so smart – spectacular grades are hard to come by.

The thing I find that makes Wharton the most challenging is the balance between objective (BPUB 250, FNCE) and subjective (MGMT, MKTG) classes.

What I mean by that is some people are good at math/science so they have no problem in quantitative classes like statistics, finance, or microecon (BPUB 250) but could struggle in a class like MGMT 100 where the grading is in highly subjective areas (presentation skills, peer/client review).

At the same time, there are the more interpersonal types who do better in a class like MGMT but might not be as strong in quantitative subjects.

Unfortunately, Wharton classes are always curved so it is unlikely for someone to be very strong in all subject areas.

the kids at wharton will slash your throat and leave u to die

no, really. they will. papercuts from $100 bills
