i have to take this for fine art requirement... how difficult is it ?? any good prep book suggestions?? and is it possible to do online??

Suggest you buy the 2004 released exam from the College Board online store. Our class is using the REA review book. It is excellent.

I loved the class, but it was VERY hard!

This class is AMAZING! I learned so much and had a great time. The AP exam is pretty tough though, so you can't get by without applying yourself.

Get the Barrons book. Its extremely good. I had the author as a teacher last year, and my entire class felt as though they had seen everything on the test.

im just reading REA and Barrons, i hope i get a 5.. my class is useless.

Thanks guys !!

I'm still deciding between this and AP Physics, but i'm not a math/science person so i think i will take APArt instead!!
Hopefully there WILL be a class next year... everybody at my school is too scared to take it lol... humanities scarred everybody too badly.
I think i'll buy the Barrons and REA for prep.

Art History is not that bad, in my opinion. My teacher was not very comprehensive so I wouldn't consider the class a factor in my case. There's a really good practice book - I can't remember which company made it, but it's yellow - and that helped me immensely with the exam. I got lucky last year, though, in that I had seen every work on the exam.

Everyone I know who takes this class says its pretty hard, yet it pays off. The REA book is recommended.

this seriously reminds me of memories, bad ones.

actually i highly recommend the Annotated Mona Lisa, By Carol Strickland. I read it every night before bed.

CAROL STRICKLAND?

YOU HAVE HEARD OF HER?!

SHE IS MY TEACHER!!!

We always joke that the only people who have her books are the kids in my class - but you have it too?!

I NEED to show her this thread. Please write some praise about it!

CAROL IS MY LIFE. We have a kid in my class who quotes her its fab

Haha I have heard that the Annotated Mona Lisa is the best review book.

But in answering the OP - I love love love AP Art History. I have learned a lot and it is definitely my favorite class. I am extremely nervous about the exam, though!

I am considering taking AP Art History online. I figure I need some sort of art credit under my belt. My mom is an artsy type and she gets all depressed when I say I hate art. I like history though. ;)

I'm also thinking about taking AP Art History next year..
They don't offer it every year, only when they get enough students to sign up for it..
Some friends of mine took it last year, and I know they used the Annotated Mona Lisa.

well guys, i won't be able to take APART next year :(

i hate these stupid freaking budget cuts.

AP Psych might go as well. or get a bad teacher to teach it. @#$#$%#$

For those of you who have already taken AP Art History, do you need a background in Art to do well? Do you need basic art knowlege before you take the class? My S is very good in History, but knows little about art. He thinks it might be interesting.. Advice??

Before I took AP Art History I knew a bit about art because I took an Arts and Cultures class before, I think that's why I have a 108% in the class. Still, I know others who haven't been educated in art in any sort and are thriving in the class. It's not necessary to have a background in art at all, in fact most people don't, but it would certainly help.

my friend took honors humanities ( very art based/lit)
and she's doing pretty well.
