Okay, whatever you say mediocretes :D

The SAT was designed to be a guage of first year college performance. It follows that the more intelligent you are, the better you will do - but the fact that MENSA stopped using it as an acceptable entrance test indicates its main focus is not on intelligence (or specifically IQ).

regardless, they are both two very smart men. no matter how much you depsise Bush [And I despise many of his policies] or Kerry [I heart Kerry, jk who could?] both are very very smart. How else do you explain how far they have gotten? Bush may have aides whispering in his ear, but he is still President, and you are still not. I'd rather believe that Bush is smart as opposed to the American people are stupid. The former is so much easier to fathom.

"I'd rather believe that Bush is smart as opposed to the American people are stupid."

sadly, you're wrong

we rank dead last in terms of education amongst similar industrialized countries.

I wasn't talking about educational matters so much as I was talking about common sense/ cunning.
But yeah.

lets face it. most americans arent the sharpest knives in the drawer when it comes to common sense and cunning. the majority of americans prefer to keep quiet and accept what they are told without question. If you do present a smidgen of critical thought you are immediately called a treasonous francophile homosexual.

oddly enough, for most americans, the louder and more extreme a talk show pundit gets, the more truth he must be speaking. My favorite quote was when Limbaugh described Abu Ghraib as something similar to a game. "high school cheerleaders make pyramids all the time" Well, Mr. Limbaugh, they're probably not naked when they're doing so, and if not, count me in :D

"Those who are smart enough not to engage in politics are punished by being ruled by those who are dumber." - Plato :)

The consequence of not participating in the political process is that you end up being ruled by your inferiors.... approximately what plato said, dont remember the exact words

hahaha we had the same idea...

no cevonia, the SAT has simply been observed to correlate to first year college success. it wasn't designed with that in mind. MENSA stopped allowing the SAT as proof of sufficient intelligence percentile because it was recentered in the mid-90s. They still allow test from before the recentering. In the years since then it may have lost some g loading (the amount that a test measures pure intelligence), but it still carrys a very high correlation with intelligence which makes sense because it was created out of IQ tests. There are formulas out there to convert your SAT score (ie, scores from the test between the recentering and the latest changes) to an IQ score.

In fact, SAT scores are the best tool admissions officers have when looking for the best students. it's been demonstrated numerous times that SAT scores are better indicators than grades, and all other things like ECs and essays are very subjective.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say perhaps Clinton was the one good president of them all, regardless of his taste.

I'm kind of an anarchist. Actually, I'm a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. You could say I love and hate the Republican and Democratic parties equally.

I think Bush could do with eloquence lessons. It's cool to have TX pride and all, but it just doesn't help his image. I don't think he's dumb, though. I don't think Kerry was dumb, or that Clinton is dumb. I do question Al Gore, though. Mm. Never understood why the Democrats chose him. But they're going to have an awesome time in '08.

Still, you guys do know that the "F" in John F. Kerry stands for "Forbes"? As in the Forbes family. As in the magazine. So that alone could be a reason he got in. He is old New England money.

mwbashful18 - a heartfelt ditto to that. including to the last bit.

Everyone from St. Paul's got into an ivy back then and a third still do today. His daughter went to Andover though.

"But what else can you expect from a party that managed to elect a former klansman."
Mediocretes don't hate on Sen. Byrd. He was in the klan in the 1920s and has apologized/regretted it many times in public. He probably has racist viewpoints, but he is from west virginia and grew up in the early 20th century, but he is a political mastermind and knows more about parlimentary procedure and government (considered a walking encyclopedia on the constitution/articles of confederation) than any of these douchebag neocons (santorum, frist) who try to change the rules of the senate when Bush's right wing fascist judges don't get confirmed. Let's not forget the strom thurmond/trent lott incident...

It is a wonder why scoundrels typically seek solace in patriotism/nationalism.

With regard to the "Is Bush stupid?" question, let us not forget that the man did choke on a pretzel (I'm waiting for him to say "nuclear" correctly, too--just once, please!)

GDWilner, I don't think you needed to give proof. Everyone knows he's stupid. How half a country was fooled into voting for him is really beyond me...

Bush is stupid, and those who think he is smart and cunning are even stupider.

I hate to indulge in these pointless debates, but Bush is not an idiot. He is naive.
