How did he know?

My principal told me today that he had received word that I did not make NMSF. However, I was under the impression that you were only informed if you WERE a semifinalist and that you'd receive a letter of commendation in September if you weren't. How did he know that I hadn't made it? We don't have any NMSFs at our school, either.

If he knows your score and knows the cut-off for your state, he could very well tell you if you made it. The school district or another Principal may have told him the cut-off. Alternatively, other schools may have already received the package and your school has received none. There are many ways the Principal would know.

If you look at other threads, they are posting the cut off scores per state. Or you can look at last years cut off, it does not vary much from year to year.

What state are you in and what was your score?

A booklet naming all of the NMSF across the country is mailed to the school along with the student’s information so it will be easy for a Principal to obtain this information from another principal

Okay, thank you guys. I knew I was one point below last year’s cutoff, and unfortunately the cutoff is 211 again. :frowning:

mom2collegekids: I’m from Kansas with a 210. My principal told me the cutoff was 212, but I’ve seen 211 everywhere else. Either way, didn’t make it. A pretty tough break, since I went to school sick and took the test that day…103 fever. Oh well, there’ll be other opportunities.

What is your SAT or ACT score?

34 on the ACT, I’ve never taken the SAT.
