Since so much of the college search process is based on personal stereotypes and schemas, it's hard to tell whether I'm assessing schools fairly. I'm curious to see whether CCers' recommendations, based on my criteria, are anywhere close to my current college list.

Academics: Smart students who care about their work but are still collaborative; strong math, business, econ, engineering programs are preferred. Pre-professionalism is fine to a certain extent, however I don't want a place where all anyone cares about is getting internships and jobs. I want to enjoy college. School should have a good reputation.

Students: Looking for a somewhat laid-back school. A school with non-cliquey students. I'm not necessarily opposed to partying, but I'd like to go somewhere where people can also enjoy just hanging out on campus, playing poker/watching a movie/playing pick-up sports/etc. I guess I would describe myself as an average kid. I'm not a preppy frat boy, a meatheaded jock, or an artsy actor, I just kind of fall somewhere inbetween.

School: I'd prefer a small-mid sized university (4,000-16,000 maybe?) with a defined campus and a spirited athletics scene (with intramurals too). I really would like a place with great community, a place where freshman roommates and hallmates bond and people aren't too driven to form awesome friendships.

Recommendations?

PS: I have good enough stats that any schools below HYPSMC are very realistic options. (HYPSMC would definitely be big reaches but not impossible)
